One thing is sure there's probably a book there for your destination, but some guides are better than others depending on where you are going.
For example Lonely Planet are well ahead in southeast Asia, while the Footprint guides are without question the most comprehensive available for South
America, and if you are going to Africa you should pick the Rough Guides is your best pick.
